Savings tips & price context

Even without the Companion Pass, Southwest’s low‑fare structure often beats legacy carriers. Compare the total cost of two separate tickets versus a single paid ticket plus the free companion – you’ll see the savings stack quickly, especially on longer routes. Consider booking during Southwest’s “Sale Your Way” promotions for additional fare discounts. Pair the free companion with a fare that already includes free checked bags to maximize value.

FAQ

When does the Companion Pass become active?

The pass activates as soon as the qualifying purchase is completed and the deadline (August 6th) passes. It remains valid for the remainder of the calendar year.

Can I use the Companion Pass on any Southwest flight?

Yes. The companion can fly on any Southwest‑operated flight, regardless of fare class, as long as the primary ticket is valid.

What if I need to change my primary reservation?

Changes to the primary reservation automatically extend to the companion. Any fees associated with the change are applied to the primary ticket only.
