Are you ready to jet off on an unforgettable adventure? Southwest Airlines has just dropped a bombshell deal that will have you packing your bags in no time. For a limited time, you can snag one-way flights for just $49! But hurry, this scorching hot offer ends on August 15th.

Southwest is changing their seating policy in 2025

After more than five decades of the iconic boarding scrum, Southwest Airlines is set to introduce assigned seating in 2025. This major shift will eliminate the familiar frenzy of passengers rushing to claim their preferred seats.

While the exact cost for assigned seating remains undisclosed, the airline is optimistic that this change could lead to lower fares for its popular Wanna Get Away deals. More details on seat pricing and the specific start date for assigned seating are expected to be released this September.

Limited-Time Offer: $49 for a one-way ticket.

up till 11:59 p.m. With Southwest’s Wanna Get Away Sale, which runs from August 15, PT to February 12, 2025, you can reserve a few flights for as little as $49 per way for travel within the continental United States. The dates of travel are August 27, 2024 – February 10, 2025, for travel to Hawaii, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and elsewhere.

-Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for foreign and continental U.S. travel to Hawaii.

-Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for international and Hawaii-based travel to the mainland United States.

Blackout dates apply. Travel to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and interisland Hawaii is available Monday through Thursday.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, this deal is available for one-way Wanna Get Away flights.

These are some recent one-way flights that are $49:

-Midway, Chicago, IL to/from Detroit, Michigan

-Ft. Lauderdale to/from Florida’s Orlando

-Columbus, OH to/from Atlanta, GA

-Las Vegas, NV to/from Los Angeles, CA

-From/to Phoneix, AZ in El Paso, Texas

If your travel dates are varying, consider using the Southwest Low Fare Calendar trick.

Checking the Southwest Airlines Low Fare Calendar should be your first step. If your travel dates are flexible, you can use this useful tool to get the cheapest dates for your flights.

All you need to do to take benefit of the Southwest Low Far Calendar tricks is choose the airports you want to use and the months you want to travel to and from. Up to eight months’ worth of rates are displayed by Southwest, and you can quickly switch between them by utilizing the tabs at the top.

This is applicable to all Southwest routes, including those that go directly to Hawaii. With the aid of the little Fare Calendar, I was able to find flights to Hawaii in December for as little as $138 one way. To me, a Merry Christmas!

When you subscribe to Southwest’s emails, you’ll receive weekly promo codes.

Sign up for Southwest’s free email newsletter to receive exclusive discount codes, promotions, contest announcements, giveaway notices, and occasionally a coupon for a free drink.

This is one of the greatest ways to acquire Southwest Airlines deals, aside from their sales. Additionally, you can subscribe to emails straight from the Southwest Rapid Rewards account profile. Which leads to our following piece of information.

Create your own Southwest travel packages by participating in Southwest Rapid Rewards.

One of the largest pieces of advice I can give you about flying Southwest is this. Southwest’s free miles program, Rapid Rewards, is your golden ticket to complimentary travel.

The points that purchasing tickets will earn you are as follows:

-Earn 12 points for every $1 spent on business select fares.

-Earn 10 points for every $1 spent on Anytime Fares.

-Earn eight points for every $1 spent on Wanna Get Away Plus Fares.

-Earn six points for every $1 spent on Wanna Get Away Fares.

By subscribing in partner offers for dining, shopping, travel, and other activities, Rapid Rewards members can accrue extra points (see Tip #15).

After that, you can use the points to book flights on Southwest. The amount of points needed for a particular flight varies based on the location, time of booking, date of travel, day of the week, number of flights, etc. You simply have to pay taxes and fees, which can be as little as $5.60 one way, if you have enough for a free flight.

-Rapid Rewards Premier

-Premier Business

-Priority

-Performance Business

TIP: As a Rapid Rewards member, you may sometimes get free drink coupons sent to you in the mail.

The benefits increase with the amount of Southwest Rapid Rewards points you accumulate.

A-List, A-List Preferred, and Companion Pass are the three status tiers offered by Southwest.

A-List Position
After purchasing 20 qualifying one-way flights or accruing 35,000 points in a calendar year, you can advance to this level. Priority boarding, priority check-in, 25% extra Southwest Rapid Rewards points each flight, and a few more jealous benefits are all yours when you’re an A-lister.

A-List Preferred

After purchasing 40 one-way tickets or accruing 70,000 points in a calendar year, you can advance to this level. With double the base points, free in-flight Wi-Fi, two free premium drinks every flight, and a dedicated customer support number, it offers all the same benefits as the normal A-List.

Companion Pass
After purchasing 100 one-way tickets or accruing 135,000 points in a calendar year, you can advance to this level. At this tier, you receive the Southwest Companion Pass, which entitles a guest to free travel for more than a year.

Beginning in the spring of 2024, members of Rapid Rewards will have the option to pay for flights using a combination of cash and points, with as few as 1,000 points required.

If you frequently travel or own a Southwest credit card, you can obtain the Southwest Companion Pass.

As long as you have the Southwest Companion Pass, you can select one companion to travel with you for free. The only expenses you will incur are taxes and fees, which start at $5.60 each way. For this benefit, you must have a Southwest Rapid Rewards account.

A Southwest companion pass can be obtained in three main ways:

-Fly 100 times in one calendar year, one-way.

-Get 135,000 points with Rapid Rewards in a single year. In the absence of the credit card offers, your fare would have to cost at least $11,250.

-Get bonus points when you apply for the Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card. You’ll also get points for practically all purchases.

The pass is good for the remainder of the current year and the whole following year once you’ve acquired it.

Except when attempting to get a Southwest Companion Pass, Southwest points never expire.

Thankfully, Southwest points never expire. However, if you are accumulating points for the highly sought-after Southwest Companion Pass, your progress is reset on January 1st.

Therefore, if you were to accrue 100,000 points in 2022, you would still have 100,000 points available for use on flights in 2023, but those points would not be eligible for a companion pass.

Tuesdays at 3 p.m. are the best times to get Southwest tickets.
Why is Tuesday the week? Southwest usually releases its weekly special fares in its email newsletter at that time.

Weekly deals on Southwest Airlines often expire on Thursday of that week and last for just three days. Before the seats run out, be among the first to claim a special fare.

TIP: We are aware of when is the optimum time to purchase tickets on all major airlines.

If the fare drops after you’ve booked, ask for a price adjustment.
Once you purchase tickets, pay attention to their cost. Southwest will reimburse you the difference if you notice the price drop.

To receive a price adjustment, first confirm that the special fare is applicable to the flight you already purchased. After that, log into your Southwest account to see your reservation and pick “Change Reservation.” Then, select your new flight by following the on-screen instructions.

The difference will be promptly refunded to your account if you purchased using points. If you paid with cash, the difference will be credited to your travel fund, or they will return the money you paid with.

TIP: If you made your reservation over the phone, you must contact Southwest customer support at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA.

You can cancel your Southwest flight for free.

Yes, that is correct. No cost.

Up to ten minutes before to the planned departure time, you can cancel your Southwest flight without incurring any fees. You’ll receive a reusable travel fund good for future usage, worth the price of your trip. (And those funds often go out a year after your initial reservation date.)

You will lose your flight cost if you attempt to cancel less than ten minutes before takeoff, or if you miss your flight, which is not the same as canceling.

Changing a Southwest flight is like free of charge.

Additionally, there are no penalties if you modify your Southwest reservation up to ten minutes prior to the planned departure time.

This is significant because, depending on the airline and the time of departure, changing a trip might cost anywhere from $39 to $150.

Of course, you’ll be responsible for any fare differences while traveling with Southwest. However, if the new ticket is less expensive, you’ll receive a refund in the original payment method or the difference will be added to your account as a Southwest travel fund, which is normally good for a year after the original booking date.

You may check two bags for free on any flight with Southwest’s baggage policy.

Out of all the American airlines, Southwest has the best luggage policy. Per ticket, you receive a personal item, a free carry-on, and two free checked bags. They are the only airline in the world that doesn’t charge for one checked bag, much less two. Even golf bags and skis are eligible to be checked for free.

Other airlines charge $30 to $60 for the first luggage and $35 to $52 for the second. By using Southwest, you can save up to $112 simply on luggage costs. (Some airlines even charge extra for luggage checked in.)

Ensure your bags weigh less than fifty pounds or are smaller than sixty-two inches. If not, each luggage would cost you between $100 and $125 to transport.

If you have particular seating choices, purchase the $15 Southwest Airlines EarlyBird Check-In.

You’re better off purchasing EarlyBird Check-In for $15 to $25 one way if you want first choice of seats because Southwest does not currently offer assigned seating. It improves your chances of getting accepted into the A group for boarding and ensures that you are automatically checked in 36 hours before your flight.

For $30 to $60, don’t upgrade your boarding position at the gate.
You will receive A-group boarding if you increase your boarding position, but you will not receive any of the other luxurious benefits of Business Select, such as premium Southwest drink vouchers.

Naturally, you can pay the additional cost at the gate to upgrade your ticket to Business Select in order to receive the complimentary drink and A-group boarding. It is preferable to pay $15–$25 for EarlyBird Check-In and $7–$8 for a drink.

Become a member of the Southwest Rapid Rewards Dining program to earn bonus points when eating out.

If you sign up for notifications via email, you will receive three Southwest Rapid Rewards points for every $1 you spend at eligible restaurants (there are many, including both local and national chains). If you choose not to sign up, you will receive half a point for every dollar spent. In the first thirty days, you may gain up to 500 extra points.

In addition, the Rapid Rewards Dining program frequently offers bonuses, such as an additional 300 bonus points for each 1,000 points you receive from dining and finishing reviews.

Tip: Is there another simple method to rapidly accrue 1,000 bonus points? Use the Turbo Tax link on the Southwest Rapid Rewards Shopping website to file your return during tax season. This offer was available in the middle of January in 2023, and it ended on April 18, 2023, Tax Day.

When traveling with children under the age of six, you can right away qualify for early family boarding.

If you have children under six, you do not need to bother about obtaining EarlyBird Check-In.

Families with children ages six or younger are permitted to board after the A group, so you may all sit together during the ride.

With Southwest, infants travel for free, but kids older than two often pay full price.

If a baby sits on your lap and is between the ages of 14 days and two years old, they can travel for free on Southwest Airlines (without taking up a spot). They will require a government-issued ID to be used at the airport to confirm their age.

Southwest even has cheap infant fares for infants under the age of two, should your child require a seat. Just keep in mind that “Wanna Get Away” rates are frequently less expensive when comparing child fares.

Although not all Southwest flights have discounted prices for accompanied youngsters, it’s always a good idea to inquire. To find out if there is a low cost child fare available for your flight, contact Southwest Customer Service at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792).

Southwest welcomes passengers of all sizes and provides free additional seats.

On a Southwest aircraft, it’s simple to ask for a free additional seat or seats if you can’t fit comfortably and safely in a single seat due to the extremely tiny space between seats. They have one of the most liberal customer-of-size policies in the business.

To do this, there are two methods:

-When you plan your flight, buy one or more extra seats. After you arrive, contact Southwest to get your money back for the additional seats. Although it costs extra up front, this helps ensure that there will be enough seats for you.

-When booking your flight, purchase a single seat and ask a customer service agent at the gate for one or more other seats. However, there’s no assurance they’ll have enough room. For popular flights, this is a tougher choice, but it doesn’t come with an additional cost.

Anyone who cannot easily fit between the armrests, which are typically 17 inches apart, is considered a Customer of Size.

To secure a better seat, set your alarm for the day before the flight.

However, if you wait even two minutes past the twenty-four-hour threshold, you can find yourself in the dreaded C group—the middle seat—which is inevitable.

Use the Southwest app on your phone or tablet to book flights and view free movies.

Using the Southwest Airlines app on your iOS or Android device, you can easily modify or cancel flights, monitor your boarding position, get your boarding pass, find out the gate, and much more. The simplest method to enjoy Southwest’s free in-flight entertainment is to download it for free.

You may watch free movies, TV series, and live TV on HGTV, NBC, and ESPN by using the Southwest app.

When you purchase discounted Southwest Airlines gift cards, you may save up to 10%.

Southwest Airlines gift cards are frequently discounted by 10% at Sam’s Club, with a $500 eGift card being sold for just $449.99. At Sam’s Club, you can purchase up to three cards simultaneously.

To be updated on Southwest Airlines’ sales, like and follow them on Facebook.

Make sure to follow Southwest Airlines on Facebook so you never miss another flash bargain. Facebook will notify you when they post a new sale. Much more efficient than sorting through endless emails.

If you are boarding in a lower boarding group or late-B group, check your carry-on bag at the gate.
There’s a good chance that the overhead bin will be completely filled if your aircraft is full and you are among the last passengers to board.

Give your carry-on at the gate before boarding so you are not surprised when you get to the back of the aircraft.

If you do this, you won’t have to worry about fitting your bags into the small space in the overhead bins; instead, take the first seat that becomes available!

Buy extra drink coupons for Southwest Rapid Rewards on eBay.

More in-flight beverage tickets are needed. Purchase these from eBay. Four unused tickets cost an average of $22, whereas drinks often cost between $6 and $7 apiece. It should be noted that selling them carries a risk because Southwest has the power to cancel your rewards membership if they find out.

For first service of drinks, choose a seat in rows 1, 9, or 17.

Being at the front of their respective sections, flight attendants usually stop and serve these rows first.

There are no hot lunches or sandwiches offered on any Southwest flight, so bring a snack.
On a five-hour journey, a modest container or two of peanuts and pretzels will only get you so far.

In particular when flying with children, be careful to bring a snack or purchase something at the terminal to prevent yourself from becoming hungry.

Flying on specific holidays may entitle you to free drink specials.
Traveling on specific holidays was eligible for complimentary drinks from Southwest before to the COVID-19 pandemic. Remember, using the Southwest Low Fare Calendar hack on a holiday is unlikely to result in a cheaper flight. But, if you happen to be traveling on one of these unique days, you might just score a freebie that involves alcohol (tell us if you do!).
